Kenneth Frank Barna - Class Of 1960

Kenneth Frank Barna

Kenneth F. Barna

June 19, 1942 - May 16, 2018

SOUTH BEND - Kenneth F. Barna was taken into the loving arms of Jesus on May 16, 2018. Born to Frank and Elsie Barna on June 19, 1942 in South Bend, Indiana, he was the eldest of six children.

Ken was very intelligent and was an avid reader. He had an interest and knowledge in the political, social, and spiritual genres of our nation and the world. He had many friends throughout his life, and he was well-liked and personable.

Ken enjoyed going to all family gatherings, birthday parties, holiday festivities (including Easter egg hunts and visits from Santa), family reunions, summer picnics, and the annual fall apple picking party/bonfire. He especially delighted the children and would take special care in choosing and presenting gifts to them. On Christmas and birthdays, each of us would always receive a thoughtful and beautiful card from him. He was a faithful and true brother and friend. Ken had a sincere love of God and an understanding of deep spiritual realities. He possessed a rare and wonderful gift of perceiving others' thoughts and feelings and sharing his wisdom and counsel, thus helping others grow in holiness.

A man of heroic virtues, he had perseverance in long suffering, courage in the midst of fear, inner strength in human weakness, patience in trials, a sense of humor when confronted with sadness, peace in struggle, and an acceptance of God's will.

His life was a prayer, a grace, and a blessing for the good of those he loved.

Surviving are brothers, William Barna and David (Vicki) Barna; sisters, Marcia (John) Reed, Christine Wallace, and Frances Barna, 5 nieces, 5 nephews, 13 grand-nieces, and nine grand-nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2018 in the Welshemer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., where friends may visit with the family from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery following services.

Ken, our brother and our friend, we love you. May you at last rest in peace and joy with Jesus and Mary and the communion of saints and angels in heaven.
