Susan Morrow (Jackey) Munger

LAKEVILLE - Susan M. Munger, 75 years old, passed away at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Susan was born on August 18, 1941 in South Bend to the late Paul and Jeanne (Morrow) Jackey. Along with her older sister, Pauline (Chuck) Lambert and younger brother, Patrick “Bert” Jackey, both of whom survive, Susan was raised by her mother and maternal grandmother, Mary Cohan. Also preceding her in death was her special stepfather, Art Pixley. Together they grew up learning the importance of family and commitment to one another. Many stories have been told over the years of the crazy pranks and antics of their childhood.

She has remained a lifelong area resident. She grew up in South Bend and graduated from Riley High School with the class of 1960. It was there that she met Terry Truman Munger, who survives. On April 6, 1963 in South Bend, Susan and Terry were united in marriage. Through the course of their marriage of 53 years, nothing has stood out more than the examples they set about what true love and commitment looks like. They both knew what it meant to come from very humble beginnings and worked together to build something very special that could be witnessed by all who knew them.

In the early years of their marriage, Susan worked in South Bend at Bendix Insurance Dept. She then became a full time homemaker before returning to work again at the St. Joseph County Auditor's Office once her children were grown. Above all, the job titles she held most dear to her were being a mom to her two daughters and grandma to her four grandchildren. Susan's family and friends truly are what brought her the most joy!

Along with her loving husband Terry, of 53 years, survivors include their two daughters, Carla (Troy) Gurtner of Bremen and Dana (Ryan) Hamilton of North Liberty; four grandchildren, Marci (Phil) Wicks, Kelsey Gurtner, Cameron Gurtner and Riley Hamilton; sister, Pauline (Chuck) Lambert of South Bend; and brother, Patrick “Bert” Jackey of LaPaz, IN. Susan was also blessed with a very special caregiver, Angie Eubanks. The family appreciates Angie's friendship, support and the care extended to Susan in the past year of her life.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Palmer Funeral Home, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville, within the Palmer Community Complex. Pastor Tim Stewart will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 2nd, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Friday.
