John W. "Jack" Porte, Jr.

September 8, 1942     ~      June 20, 2019

Mr. John William Porte, Jr.  76, of Platte City, MO and a member of Platte Woods United Methodist Church passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019 at North Kansas City Hospital. John was born September 8, 1942 to John William Sr. and Eleanor Florence (Sholly) Porte. John was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country from 1960 – 1966. He was united in marriage with Doris Gean (Geanie) Farris on May 27, 1970 in Kansas City, MO.

John spent the majority of his working career as a Computer Tech Specialist for Trans World Airlines (T.W.A.) traveling the United States meeting many people and making lasting friendships. He retired in 2003 after 37 years of dedicated service.  

John will forever be remembered as a loving, kind hearted and devoted husband; a wonderful Daddy, and an amazing grandfather. His hobbies that he began as a young man included all things trains, model kits, and paint by number creations. He was a huge football fan for Notre Dame and the Chiefs. 

Survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Geanie Porte; two daughters: Staci and her husband Joe of Platte City, MO; Stephani and her fiance’ Brian of Kansas City (North), MO; four grandchildren: Braedon, Emma, Kyle, and Logan; two sisters: Carol of Sherman, TX; Janet of Franklin, WI; and a brother, Phil of Chesterfield, MI.  He was preceded in death by both parents. 

The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Platte Woods United Methodist Church 7310 N.W. Prairie View Road in Platte Woods, MO.  A Memorial Service celebrating John’s life will commence at 4:00 p.m., followed with military honors.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Honor Flight KC (honorflightkc.org). John made the trip to Washington, D.C. with the Honor Flight Network KC organization in October of 2017. Memories of John and condolences to the family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com
