Jill Rayme Taylor (Ritter ,Samarich)

Jill Rayme (Taylor) Samarich

July 21, 1942 ~ April 30, 2024        81 Years Old

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Jill Rayme Samarich. Jill passed peacefully Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Ernestine M. Raclin House, Center for Hospice Care in Mishawaka.

Jill was born in LaPorte, Indiana to the late Raymond Howard Taylor and Geraldine Ann (Schrader) Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Edna (Hawkins) Taylor.

Jill graduated from Riley High School in South Bend.

On April 22, 1961, Jill married her high school sweetheart, Jay Ritter, who preceded her in death on February 7, 2001.

She is survived by their children; Dan (Melba) Ritter, Tim Ritter and Angie (Pat) Pickenpaugh.

On May 21, 2004, Jill married John Samarich. He preceded her in death on February 4, 2019. From this marriage, she gained bonus sons, Michael and Robert and their families.

Along with her children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Jami, Justin, Danny, Shane, Raeanne, Rebecca and Quinn. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ethan, Jay and Bella, her brothers, Wayne Taylor and Tom Hawkins, special nieces and nephews and her “Sissy,” Karen Bishop.

She was a “Jill” of all trades. During high school, she earned money by babysitting and working as a car-hop at a Tasty Freeze.  After graduation, her first real job was at National Bank in the “Handy Charge” department. Her favorite job, however, was staying home and raising her children. After the youngest started school, Jill held jobs at Hook’s drug store, the BMV, and Morse Electric where she learned construction accounting. That led to her working for Slutsky-Peltz, Peltz Henkel and Peltz Services. She retired from O.J. Shoemaker as CFO.

The family would like to thank Center for Hospice Care for all the care your staff rendered to our mom during her time on hospice care.

A private graveside service will be held at Southlawn Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hospice, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at afsp.org/stjosephcounty.
