SOUTH BEND - George L. Thompson, 69, of South Bend, Ind., died at 6:35 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 30, 2010) at the Hospice House in South Bend. He was born Jan. 12, 1941 in Argos, IN to John L. & Ruth E. (White) Thompson. Surviving are 3 sons, Stephen (Ann Marie) Thompson of South Bend, Timothy (Patty) Thompson of Elkhart, Ryan (Tina) Thompson of South Bend, 1 daughter, Suzanne (Jeff) Hiatt of South Bend and 8 grandchildren. Also surviving is 1 brother, Ron Thompson of Nappanee and 2 sisters, Kay (Al) Reniger of Hudson, FL and Carol Clingenpeel of South Bend, IN. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Thompson and a grandson, Aaron Daniel Milewski and his parents John & Ruth Thompson. George was employed as a butcher and meat cutter at Ernie's, Gruber's and various other meat markets in South Bend. He graduated from Riley High School in 1959. He was a faithful and longtime member of the Lakeside Baptist Church in Lakeville, IN. He loved playing the guitar and enjoyed music. While he was in the nursing home he played the piano. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 2, 2010) at the Lakeside Baptist Church, 515 Michigan Trail, Lakeville, IN. Pastor Vito Rulli will officiate the service. A dinner will be served at the church following the service. Cremation will take place. Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the church.
