SOUTH BEND - Carolyn J. Bango, 74, passed away at 11:45 am Friday, July 22, 2016 in her residence.

Carolyn was born on December 2, 1941 in LaPorte to Robert and Florence Lewis. She graduated from Riley High School and IUSB and retired from the Elkhart Co. Prosecutors Office where she worked on F.A.C.T. Carolyn also had been employed in the food industry, managing the Landing Restaurant & Lounge and The Landing Hall in Roseland, as well as managing the Wendy's in Roseland and South Bend. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting and quilting. A goal of hers was to make quilts for all of her grandchildren. With the help of all of her friends at Stone Soup Boutiques, as well as other friends, she was able to achieve her goal. Carolyn's grandchildren were the love of her life. She loved to have them spend the weekends with her and attend their sporting events. Carolyn had a special place for her dog, Luger. She was a member of Southlawn United Methodist Church where she began the Prayer Shawl Ministry and served on several other committees at the church.

On June 15, 2010 in Michigan City, as Carolyn Deranek she married Gary Bango with whom she had a 25 year relationship. Gary survives along with three sons, Jay (Carolyn) Stahly of Eugene, OR, Michael (Tonya) Stahly of South Bend and Scott Stahly of Mishawaka; a stepson, Jason (Kym) Bango of South Bend; eight grandchildren, Tre, Tia, Abby, Kevin, Cady, Adam, Justin and Melissa; a great-grandson, Cody and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Allen Wrase.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Ismail Al-Ani, Dr. Jerome Skelly as well as Southern Care Hospice and all of her church friends.

Family & friends will gather from 4-8 Tuesday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Viewing will also take place on Wednesday from 10 am until services at Southlawn United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be celebrated at 10:30 Wednesday in the church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Prayer Shawl Ministry at Southlawn United Methodist Church or Southern Care Hospice.
