SOUTH BEND - Suellen K. Petersen, 71 years old, passed away at 5:09 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017, at Kindred Hospital from complications of diabetes. Suellen was born on March 7, 1945, in South Bend, to the late Russel and Margaret (Cobb) Frushour. She had lived most of her life in South Bend and graduated from Riley High School, class of ‘63. Suellen was a realtor for many years and was also proud to care for nursing home patients as an LPN. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and was proud to serve on the council. Suellen also was a member of the reunion planning committee for Riley High School for many years, along with a group of close friends from high school.

Suellen is survived by her three children, David (Angela) Petersen of Ave Maria, FL, Sheryl (Gregory, Jr.) Taghon of South Bend and Christina (Phillip) Sorberg of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Lauren, Bradley, Kayla, Ashley, Nicolas, Avery and Maisie; three great-grandchildren, Kellen, McKinley, and Declan; sister, Christine Keeler of Mishawaka; and brother, Neil (Cindy) Frushour of South Bend. Suellen was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Debra Petersen, and her brother, Bruce Frushour.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Kindred Hospital, as well as the countless other medical professionals who participated in her care. “When you're a nurse, you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch yours” - Author Unknown

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 225 E. Haney, South Bend. Rev. Jeff Zell will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1st, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Suellen K. Petersen may be donated to the American Diabetes Association , 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
