SOUTH BEND - Virginia M. Nix, 95, of South Bend, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 in Hospice House, Elkhart.

Virginia known to many as “Virge” was born June 27, 1920 in Mishawaka, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Catherine (Vanderheyden) Siddles. She was a graduate of Riley High School and was a life-long resident of South Bend.

On September 14, 1940 at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, Virginia married Charles P. Nix. He preceded her in death in 2007. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Kirschner.

Virginia's surviving family includes two children, Mary Elizabeth Lang (Michael Hettinghouse) of Granger and Gary Charles Nix of South Bend; two grandchildren, Michael Lang (Lisa) and Timothy Lang; and four great grandchildren, Sarah and Justin Lang, and Elizabeth and Skyler Lang.

Virginia was employed for 20 years at Wheel Horse Products. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Matthew in South Bend and was past president of their Rosary Society. Virginia and Chuck were chairpersons of the St. Matthew Harvest House. She was a member of the Area Council of Catholic Women and served as treasurer of DCCW. Virginia enjoyed working with young people, particularly in Campfire Girls and Cub Scouts. She received the St. George Medal for her work with Campfire Girls. Virginia liked being a homemaker and enjoyed crafts, sewing, golfing and the outdoors. She and Chuck enjoyed traveling.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 am in the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, with Monsignor Michael Heintz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Friends may spend time with Virginia's family Monday from 5 - 7 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, and also Tuesday from 10:30 - 11:00 am in the church.
