BUCHANAN, Mich. - Helen V. Kuntz, 98, of Buchanan, Mich., formerly of Bremen, passed away at 4:07 a.m., Sunday, July 24, 2016 in Buchanan Meadows. Helen was born on Dec. 8, 1917 in Bremen to the late Elmer E. and Vera E. (Wener) Kuntz. Helen graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School, class of 1935. She went on to graduate from Ball State Teacher's College in 1937, 1942 & 1951, earning her master's degree. She attended Western Michigan University, Indiana University & University of Wyoming. Helen taught at Ardmore, Woodrow Wilson, Kaley, and James Monroe Schools for a total of 42 years. Helen was a life member of the National Education Associates, life member of Association for Childhood Education, member of Delta Kappa Gamma, International Reading Association of Indiana, State Teachers Association and Retired ISTA and South Bend Education Association. She served as president of local Association for Childhood Education International and as State President of ACEI, also she volunteered for Southold Restorations, Meals on Wheels, and Budget Corner. While living in Michigan, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends at her cabin in Lawrence. While there, she served as a volunteer at the Van Buren County Historical Society Museum. At one time she was very active in the Lawrence United Methodist Church. While living at the Whitlock in Bremen, she received an award for Health and Service Ministries. Helen was a former member of Faith United Methodist Church, South Bend, Lawrence United Methodist Church, Grace United Methodist Church, Bremen and a current member of the First United Church of Christ, Bremen. She is survived by Michelle Schau of Buchanan and her children, Madison, Cora, and Katie. She is also survived by the members of the Dale Buckles families of California and Texas and the members of the Michael G. Kuntz families of Michigan. Helen will be missed by special friends, Carol and Dan Spaid of Bremen and by all who knew her. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2016 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 S.R. 331, Bremen. Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m., Wednesday in the funeral home with burial to follow in Bremen Cemetery. Pastor Thomas Dean will officiate.
