David Eugene Hojnacki

David Eugene Hojnacki, 75, residing in Mishawaka, IN, passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 26, 2010 in his home.

He was born January 27, 1935 in South Bend, the son of Eugene & Frances (Hornyak) Hojnacki, and has remained a lifelong resident of South
Bend-Mishawaka. He was a graduate ofJames Whitcomb Riley High School, and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.


David was a very generous person, always first to offer a helping hand to family and friends. He always gave without expecting anything in return. He was a great outdoorsman, loving to fish and garden. He had a tremendous amount of friends, and never knew a stranger, yet he was quiet, simple, and constant to his family and friends.

On February 11, 1961 at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, South Bend, he was united in marriage to Geraldine L. "Jerri" Cormeny. They recently celebrated their 49th anniversary.

He is also survived by his mother, Frances Hojnacki of South Bend, his daughter and son-in-law, Sherri & Tony Gaugler of Elkhart, his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Hojnacki and Debra Durall of South Bend, two grandchildren, Lindsay and Cole Gaugler of Elkhart, and a step-grandson, Danyl Durall of South Bend. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Hojnacki of Peoria, AZ.

Mr. Hojnacki retired from Teamsters Union Local #364, and the City of Mishawaka Street Dept. He was a member of St. Pius X. Catholic Church, Granger.

Services celebrating the life of David Hojnacki will be at Noon Tuesday, March 2, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Msg. William Schooler will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 1, at the funeral home where a rosary/vigil service will be at 3:30 p.m.
