Carol Ann Mitchell (Snyder) - Class Of 1953 VIEW PROFILE

Carol Ann (Mitchell) Snyder

August 29, 1935 ~ November 12, 2013 (age 78)

Carol Ann "Carol" Snyder, of DeLand, FL, was born on August 29, 1935 in South Bend, IN, and passed away peacefully at Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Orange City, on November 12, 2013.

She lived a wonderful life surrounded by her beautiful family and friends, which mattered most to her. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim L. Snyder, and was married to him for over 58 years. Carol's life revolved around her husband and six children (two daughters and four sons). One of her greatest joys was their large family gatherings at every birthday and holiday. She loved managing a busy home, chauffeuring her children to and from their many activities and cooking for the entire family, always making sure there was red applesauce, sweet tea, and scotcharoos available for everyone. When her children were young, Carol enjoyed working as a secretary at St. Peter Catholic Grade School. As her children grew and left home, Carol served the Stetson University community, becoming a "surrogate mom" for hundreds of students while working for over 18 years as a secretary in the university's Department of Education, Office of the Provost, and finally as a valued team member of the Athletic Department. After retiring, Carol enjoyed volunteering at Stetson athletic events and the West Volusia Chamber of Commerce.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Alice Mitchell, her brother Robert, and her sister Mary Lou Priebe. She is survived by her husband, Jim L. Snyder, sons Jeff (Roberta) of Daytona Beach, Mike (Julie Hill) of Flagler Beach, Doug (Doreen) of Orlando, Tom (Annabelle) of Orlando, daughters Michelle (Antio) Espinosa of Potomac, MD, and Elizabeth and Elizabeth's boyfriend Doug Allen of Daytona Beach. She was a proud grandmother of Josh, David, RaeLynn, Anna, Matthew, Kelsie, and Lili, and had several great-grandchildren. Carol was loved by everyone she encountered and leaves behind lifelong friends in the Kinsey, Rinderle and Frye families. She loved yearly vacations and family gatherings in New Smyrna Beach, FL, at the Sunrise Condominium. Carol will always be remembered for her infectious smile and her genuine kindness. She was a devout Catholic who enjoyed sharing her faith and fellowship with family and friends at St. Peter Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter Catholic School Scholarship Fund .

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, with a reception to follow at the St. Peter Social Hall. All arrangements are under the careful direction of Allen Summerhill Funeral Home, DeLand.
