Daniel O Zeiger

Daniel O. Zeiger

Dec. 02, 1962 - Nov. 21, 2016

BREMEN - Daniel O. Zeiger, 53 years old, passed away on Monday afternoon, November 21, 2016 as the result of a tragic accident in LaGrange County. Dan was born on December 2, 1962 in South Bend to Duane O. and Virginia M. (Balsley) Zeiger, both deceased. He has been a lifelong resident of South Bend and Bremen. On August 27, 1983 in Lakeville, Dan and Lynne M. Quimby were united in marriage.

Along with his loving wife of 33 years, Lynne, Dan is survived by their daughters, Gloria, Nina, Lucy and Shelfie; “adopted son”, Chris Gemmer; father-in-law, Jack Quimby and his wife, Geeg; and special family, Mike and Paula Nate.

Dan was a driver with Bellman Oil Company in Bremen for the past 13 years. Prior to his employment there, he worked for his family business, Zeiger Bros., from the age of 16 to 40, hauling milk from farms to Dean's dairy and also filling swimming pools for thousands of people. Anyone who knew Dan knew that he had the strongest work ethic of anyone around and was proud to teach by example to his children.

Dan was a graduate of Riley High School, Class of 1981. He served on the Union-North United School Board for eight years serving as president for two years, choosing to fight for his beliefs instead of turning away from them, trying to make LaVille a great school for his children and future students.

Most importantly, Dan loved his family deeply with total commitment and loyalty. His children were his world and he had terrific relationships with each of his daughters and Chris. He had a way of knowing the right thing to say and would take the time to say it and listen in return. People say friendships do not work for parents and children, but his children had such respect and love for him, it worked. They each considered their Dad their best friend and Dan was very proud of all 5 of them. He will be deeply missed. He was so kind and gentle and loved by everyone. He would talk to everybody and anybody. We have yet to find a single person on this Earth that didn't like and respect his honesty, generosity and selfless dedication to always, always do the right thing.

The Zeigers' are having a memorial tribute to celebrate Dan's life and the terrific man he was. Please join us in honoring his memory at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 61601 Ironwood Road, South Bend, on Saturday, November 26th from 12 to 6. Please dress comfortable. Bring your smiles, your tears and your memories to share with us. We will have a special memory book for our family, so please bring a memory and be prepared to leave it in the book for our family to look at when we need to. For his many, many friends and anyone else who cares to join, we will have Coors Lite to toast Dan's life, mourn his passing and remember his huge impact on all of our lives as a father, figure, coach, friend, and coworker.
