Eric Richard Sult
Nov. 17, 1958 - Dec. 26, 2016

SOUTH BEND - Eric Richard Sult, 58, of South Bend, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Monday, December 26, 2016, at his home with his mother at his side.

Eric was born November 17, 1958, at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend to Richard E. & Mary Evelyn (Anderson) Sult. He attended John Marshall Elementary School and graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in 1978.

After high school, Eric worked at the former Big Wheel & Wheel Works Restaurants until their closing. It then became Steak ‘N Shake on Ireland Road. He worked for the company that owned those restaurants for a total of 37 years, from 1979 until his retirement on September 3, 2016, due to poor health. He worked as a dishwasher and a shake maker. Many customers only wanted him to make their shakes.

One of the greatest joys of his life was a trip to the Scandinavian countries to visit relatives. For six weeks during the summer of 1971, he went with his mother, brother and grandmother who was born in Sweden. Eric was a lifelong member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and an Assistant Usher every Sunday. He would always greet everyone with a “smile” and “Good Morning.” He enjoyed collecting books about ball parks and trains all over the world, along with riding his 1950 Schwinn bike.

In addition to his surviving mother, Mary Evelyn Sult of South Bend, he is survived by his younger brother, Dr. Timothy M. Sult (Jacqui), niece, Bridgit Kathryn Sult, and nephew, Soren Anders Sult, all of Raleigh, North Carolina. His father, Richard, passed away November 23, 2008, as well as his only uncle, Richard E. Anderson, and grandparents, Anders Gustav and Ellen Maria Anderson, and Robert & Helen Sult.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 225 E. Haney St., South Bend. Rev. Jeff Zell will officiate. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at church on Saturday.

Expressions of sympathy may be offered to the Center for Hospice Care, Inc., 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend. Online condolences to the family may be sent to www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
