Roger Dale Boggs

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in The River Park Methodist Church for Aviation Seaman Roger Dale Boggs of the U.S. Navy who was killed Sept. 17 in the crash of a World Airways transport plane in Guam which took the lives of 76 persons, mostly homeward-bound military personnel and their families. Mr. Boggs was scheduled for discharge from the Navy Oct. 17.
Mr. Boggs, who lived at 2212 S. Lafayette St., was born in South Bend on Oct. 18, 1939, and lived in the city until he joined the Navy.
His most recent duty was aboard the U.S.S. Hornet, an aircraft carrier in the Pacific where he served as a flagman.
Surviving are his step-father, Walter Labis of South Bend; a brother, Nelson D. Boggs, U.S. Air Force stationed in Denver; his grandmothers, Mrs. Francis Boggs and Mrs. Susie Lambert; five step-sisters, Mrs. Delores Milewski, Mrs. Margaret Torogi and Miss Susie Labis, all of South Bend, Mrs. Betty Weddle of Columbus, OH and Mrs. David Whelan of Calif.; and a step-brother Donald Labis of South Bend.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the River Park Methodist Church with Rev. Russell B. Kern officiating. Burial will be at the Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty.
