Earl Dean Hedman

Mar. 30, 1939 – Oct. 19, 1997

ELKHART – E. Dean Hedman, 58, of County Road 16 West, Elkhart, Ind., died at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, in Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born on March 30, 1939, in Mishawaka, Ind., and had been a lifelong area resident.

On Aug. 19, 1961, in South Bend, Ind., he married Janice Miller, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Melody Hedman Hubbard of Bryan, Texas, and Harmony (John) Schmitt of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Stephanie and Dylan Hubbard of Bryan, Texas, and Michael and Christina Schmitt of Mishawaka; a sister, Susann Wilkeson of South Bend; and by his mother, Ana McDaniel of Mishawaka.

His father, Earl Hedman, who preceded him in death, started the family business in 1945, and Dean became owner and proprietor of Hedman Music in 1957.

Dean was a graduate of Riley High School and a participant in the Pilot Program of Diversified Cooperative Education (DCE) in South Bend. He received an Electronics Repair degree from DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, Ill., and was a member of the Musical Instrument Technicians Association International (MITA).

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood, with Rev. Thomas Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in South Union Cemetery, Nappanee, Ind.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of donor’s choice.
