Carol Ann Brittain

Jul. 7, 1938 – Jan. 27, 1971

The death of Mrs. Carol Brittain, 32, of 1818 E. Altgeld St., from an overdose of sleeping pills, was ruled a suicide today by Deputy County Coroner Dr. Stanley M. Koscielski.

Mrs. Brittain died at 2:31 a.m. today in Osteopathic Hospital where she was being treated after being overcome in her home Monday night.

Dr. Koscielski reported that a private ambulance took her to the hospital after she took approximately 30 sleeping pills. Dr. Koscielski said Mrs. Brittain had been despondent.

Mrs. Brittain was born in Loogootee, Ind., on July 7, 1938, and came to South Bend from there when she was a child.

On Oct. 29, 1959, as Carol Ann Montgomery, she married Richard Brittain in Three Rivers, Mich. Surviving in addition to her husband, are two sons, Randy and James at home; a stepson, Robert Brittain of Normal, Ill., and a brother, James Montgomery of Clearwater, Fla.

Friends may call Thursday afternoon and until the time of services at 10 a.m. Friday in the Everett Ballard Funeral Home, Rev. Raymond D. Harris, pastor of the First Christian Church, Mishawaka, will officiate and after cremation, burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
