Dan E. Jones

SOUTH BEND - Dan Eugene Jones, 78, of South Bend, passed away on Friday, Sept. 12, at 3:20 p.m. at Memorial Hospital; his daughters Yvette and Teela were by his side. He was born on June 15, 1936, in Paris, TN, to the union of the late James A. Jones and the late Mae Ella (Diggs) Jones

Dan graduated from Riley High School in 1955, and served in the U.S. Navy, where he received an Honorable Discharge; his military Tour of Duty took him to Cuba, Brazil and Japan; he also played basketball for the Navy and received numerous awards.

He was formerly employed as a technician at WNDU-TV, and also worked at St. Joseph's Medical Center until he retired. His hobbies included sports, dancing and playing the lottery.

Dan is survived by his wife, Gretta; brother, Calvin (Gwendolyn) Edwards, all of South Bend; seven daughters, Yolanda (Larry) Green, Yvette (Dion) Jones and Yvonne Jones, and their mother his former wife, Winona Northern; his daughter, Teela (Tyrus) Jones-Good, and her mother, his former wife, Jacqueline Franklin-Jones; and daughters, Muriel (Lynn) Banks of Lexington, KY, Dannell Young and Dana (Garry) Cooper, all of Waukegan; children at heart, Mario Bolling, Tina, Charles and Delise Adams; 18 Grandchildren and 20 Great-grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Veronica Henderson of South Bend and Patricia Dean of Indianapolis, IN; 3 brothers-in-law, Martin (Helen) and Thomas (Cynthia) Henderson of South Bend and Ronald of Pensacola, FL.

Along with his parents, Dan was also preceded in death by a brother, John Phillip Jones.

Services for Dan will be held on Saturday, September 20, at 1:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, 3525 S Michigan St., South Bend. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
