SOUTH BEND - Joan E. (Cooper) Motts, 86, passed away at 1:25pm Sunday, June 11, 2017 in her residence.

Joan was born on July 14, 1930 in South Bend to Willie and Glenna (Heilman) Cooper. On January 18, 1958 in South Bend she married Elden “Blackie” Motts who survives along with a daughter Glenna (Randy) Smith of Fremont, OH, a son Craig (Shelley) Motts of South Bend, 2 grandchildren Aaron Smith and Jason Smith, 4 step-grandchildren Jason Fletcher, Brian Fletcher, Michael Fletcher and Daniel Fletcher, 8 great-grandchildren a great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and a brother William Cooper.

Joan was employed by RACO and Memorial Hospital and volunteered with the Humane Society, Pet Refuge, The Wildlife Assoc and Portage Manor. She was a graduate of Riley High School and enjoyed time in her garden and raising flowers.

Funeral services will be celebrated at 10:00am Thursday, June 15, 2017 in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may gather from 4-8 Wednesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pet Refuge or the Center for Hospice Care.
