SOUTH BEND - Norma Laurene (Hartranft) Helm, 92, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017 after a brief battle with colon cancer. She was born December 17, 1924 in Elkhart, Indiana to Lester J. and Alta F. (Shaff) Hartranft, at the home of her grandparents J.W. and Cora (Young) Shaff.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (husband, Karl) Borsodi of Mishawaka, Indiana; three sons, Mike (wife, Kathy) Helm of Lafayette, Indiana, Patrick Helm of Harvest, Alabama, Steve (wife, Lisa) Helm of Washington, Michigan; ten grandchildren, two step grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren; one sister, Lois (husband, John) Findley of West Lafayette, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Helen Maxine Hartranft, in infancy.
Norma was a graduate of Riley High School in South Bend, and a graduate of Indiana University in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in Art and Music.
Later in life her passion for art was renewed and she enjoyed painting. She was a member of the Northern Indiana Artists Association and her art was featured in many places near South Bend. She currently has a work of art permanently displayed at the Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart, Indiana.
Services will take place on Saturday July 1, 2017 with visitation starting at 12 Noon and the service commencing at 1:00 p.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis.
