Jeanne Yockey (Hipskind) - Class Of 1934 VIEW PROFILE

Jeanne Yockey (Hipskind)

Riley 1934 Jeanne (Yockey) Hipskind

Sept. 29, 1916 - August 2, 2017

MSHAWAKA - Jeanne Yockey Hipskind, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away August 2, 2017 at Sprenger Health Care of Mishawaka, after a several months' stay following minor surgery in February of 2017. Until that surgery she had been self-sufficient, living alone and continuing to cook and entertain her family and bridge friends. She had lived alone since her husband of 53 years, Donald Eugene Hipskind preceded her in death in 1993.

She had a will to live and be a guiding force and friend to her two children, Patricia Jan Hipskind of South Bend and John Russell Hipskind of Fort Wayne, IN, who survive. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, and twin sister and special friend, Jane Yockey Hunt in June 2015. She is survived by her “younger” sister, Margaret Mary Yockey Stephenson of North Bend, WA; nieces, Cheryl Uyhelji (Granger, IN), Kathleen Erb (Renton, WA) and Jeanne Anacker (North Bend, WA); and nephew, Terry Hunt (Vandalia, MI). Jeanne lover her family, her churches with Sandy and Dan Barnes, the Riley Lunch Bunch, the Riley Over the Hill group, playing bridge, the Phi Beta Psi sorority, the Chicago Cubs, all of her social groups and friends. In 2016 she celebrated her 100th birthday with a party in her honor in South Bend with more than 70 friends and family in attendance. She always joked there would not be a lot of people at her 100th party because she had outlived most of her friends. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jason Clay Hipskind and wife Dena (Cincinnati, OH); Trisha Lynn (Hipskind) Painter and husband Levi (Kamas, UT); and Jamie Suzanne (Hipskind) Feagans and husband Jason (Springville, IN). Her ten great-grandchildren are: Jason Clay Hipskind, Jr., Owen Christopher Hipskind and August James Hipskind of Cincinnati, OH; Arlo Russell Painter and Giles John Painter of Kamas, UT; and Sydney Leigh Feagans, Simon Michael Feagans, Kiera Lyn Feagans, Kameron Jon Feagans, and Lucah Anne Feagans of Springville, IN. Jeanne was an amazing person with a love of life and a will to mentor and support others. One quote she always liked is “DO WHAT YOU DO WITH A WILL AND A SMILE AND WHATEVER YOU DO WILL BE TWICE AS WORTHWHILE!” She will be greatly missed and always loved by her family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be planned to accommodate family and friends at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home at a later date.

E-mail condolences may be made at www.welsheimer.com.
