Mary Belle (Griffith) Thomas

March 29, 1929 - July 21, 2001
By her bedside her loving, adoring children watched with sad hearts as on July 21, 2001, at 4;00 p.m. the Lord put his loving arms around Mary Belle Thomas and brought her to the house no man has built.
After a long and valiant battle with cancer, the cancer had won the battle.

Born on March 29, 1929, Mary Belle was the youngest of seven children from the union of Grover Griffith and Myrtle Rowse in Jansonville, Ind. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and brother, Estil.
Mary Belled graduated from Riley High School in South Bend, Ind., in 1947.

Dec. 24, 1950, Mary Belle married her one true love and soulmate, David C. Thomas. He passed away Jan. 14, 1974.

From this union are two loving and caring children, Michael D. Thomas of Mishawaka, Ind., and Pamela D. Gumm of indianapolis, Ind.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Alisa Gumm, Monika Ward, Buffy Gumm, Jeron Gumm and Devon Gumm; seven great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Bailey Tirotta, Rrelan and Diva Gumm, Austin Thompson, Adrianna Gumm and Holly Ward. She is also survived by her sisters, Clara Teeter and Madeline Auer of Mishawaka, Marjorie King of South Bend and Jane Hubbell of Jasonville; and one brother, George Griffith of Orlando, Fla.

Mary Belle was a hairdresser for many years at the Pick Oliver Hotel in South bend. In 1994 she retired from Tiara Manufacturing in Elkhart, Ind. She was a member of VFW Post 360 in Mishawaka and the Moose Lodge of Elkhart where she was an enthusiastic golfer.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in Bubb's funeral Home on North Main in Mishawaka. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 24, in the funeral home. Mary Belle will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Ansari, Dr. Helman, T. Klatt-Ellis, CNS, 10 South Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph Hospice, and the nurses and staff for their extraordinary work.
