Charlotte Ann Mass, 70, of Bay Hill Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 10:55 p.m. on Sunday. Jan. 23. in Saint Jo-seph's Region-al Medical Center. South Bend. She was born on Feb. 23, 1929, in South Bend, to Meta (Braun) and Gustav Kristowski, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Herbert Kristowski.

On June 27, 1953, in South Bend, as Charlotte Ann Kristowski, she married William A. Mass, who survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Mary Ann (David) Steam of Geneva, IL and Diann Sue (Barton) Scofield of Woodland, CA, two sons, Thomas 0. (Gayle) Mass of Indianapolis, IN., and Timothy I. Mass of South Bend; six grand-children, Laura, Michelle and Carol Mass, Brittany and Hannah Mass, and Sharla Stearn; three sisters, Irma Ray of Loveland. Colo., Ruth Klahr of South Bend and Florence Pischke of Falls Church, Va.; a sister-in-law, Mildred Fitterling of Lakeville, IN., and by a brother-in-law, Richard (Joan) Mass.

Mrs. Mass retired in 1991 as an elementary school teacher for the South Bend Community School Corporation. She had taught for 22 years in the corporation and had taught at Perley, Kaley, Kennedy, Madison, Brown and Coquillard elementary schools. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, South Bend, and its choir and altar guild. She was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church, South Bend, where she taught Sunday School and confirmation classes, and was a former member of its altar guild.

She was a Riley High School graduate and attended Valparaiso University. She was a graduate of Ball State Teachers College where she received her B.A. in elementary education, and received her Master's degree in education from Indiana University of South Bend.

Services for Mrs. Mass will be at 11 a.m on Thursday, Jan. 27. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. 51490 Laurel Road, South Bend. Rev Gregory Fiechtner from the church will conduct the services. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. today. Jan. 26. in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North. 17033 Cleveland Road. South Bend. Cremation will take place after the funeral services.
