Leila Bel (Misch) King

May 13, 1929 - March 8, 2017

VANDALIA - Leila Bel King, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 8th, 2017. Le was a longtime resident at Birch Lake in Vandalia, Michigan. Her death was of natural causes while in residence at Primrose Retirement Community, Mishawaka, Indiana.

Leila was born May 13, 1929, in South Bend, Indiana, to Arthur C. Misch and Ruth (Callbeck) Misch. In the bloom of life she fell in love and married William A. King on October 21st, 1951. After spending over 65 years together, late in life Bill and Le were inseparable.

Le graduated from Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana. The Kings initially made their home in South Bend, Indiana ... later drawn to live full-time on Birch Lake in southwest lower Michigan.

Devoted wife, Le loved to dance, and was in instructor at the Marie Buchkowski School of Dance. Bill and Le met at an old world dance hall and took every opportunity to “cut a rug” in the Big Band era.

Mother and Grandmother, Le was a tireless Housewife Mom, volunteering / hosting: Indian Guides, Camp Fire Leaders, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Parent Teacher Association, and Adams Swim Team functions (1971-1972).

Le is survived by her husband, William (Bill) King, in residence at Primrose Retirement Community, Mishawaka; daughter, Karen “Suzy” King, South Bend; son, Robert “Bob” King; daughter-in-law, Leslie King; and grandson, Calvin S. King, all of South Bend.

Friends are invited to celebrate Le's life on Sunday, March 12th, from 4-6pm at the McGann Hay Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 at Cherry Rd., Granger, IN 46530. The family asks that memorial donations go to Heartland Hospice, 230 W. Catalpa Dr., Mishawaka, IN 46545.
