“Cpl. Dewey C Mann, ex. ’45, South Bend, was killed in action on March 5 while serving with the Third Army in Germany. Surviving besides his parents are a brother and a sister. Overseas since September, 1944, Dewey was with the 10th armored division. He was graduated from the ASTP [Army Specialized Training Program] engineering course at the University of Georgia before transferring to the armored service.” (Apr. 1945 Notre Dame Alumnus, p. 9, 10)
“Cpl. Dewey C. Mann, ex. ’45, South Bend, was killed in action March 8 (not March 5 a s previously reported) while serving with the Third Army in Germany. His division, the tenth armored, was highly commended for the part it played in the capture of the city of Metz. The members of the division also figured prominently in the heroic stand at Bastogne, battling for the city until the arrival of the 101st airborne division. Dewey, survived by his parents, brother and sister, was awarded the Purple Heart.” (June 1945 Notre Dame Alumnus, p. 16)
