Eldona "Dona" L. (Burmeister) Futterknecht

SOUTH BEND - Eldona L. Futterknecht (Dona Futter), 88, from South Bend, IN, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Your Home Assisted Care in South Bend. Dona was born on November 24, 1924, in South Bend, to the late Herman and Clara (Carden) Burmeister. A sister, Madelon Ginter, preceded Dona in death.
Dona graduated from Riley High School in South Bend.
On Aug. 18, 1956, Dona married John J. Futterknecht (Jack Futter) in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Dona & Jack were married for 56 years. Her husband, Jack, along with several nieces and nephews survive Dona. Dona retired from the South Bend Tribune as an Administrative Assistant. Dona & Jack were members of the Morris Park Country Club; she enjoyed golfing and attending social functions at the country club. Dona was also a former member of the Christ Child Society.
Jack was a devoted husband to Dona, keeping her at home with him until he was unable to care for her due to her disease of dementia.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2013, with 2 hours visitation prior at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. The family requested in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
