Martha J. (Norris) Sechowski

SOUTH BEND - Martha Jane Sechowski (Szczechowski) of Brooksville, FL, passed away Feb. 1, 2014. Jane was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, John A. Sechowski Jr. Their children, Christine Ouding (Jerry) of Winona Lake and Dennis Sechowski (Janet) of South Bend, survive.

Jane was born in South Bend on July 22, 1925, to Roy & Catherine (Kate) Norris. Jane was the final survivor of her siblings: brothers, Pete, George, William (Bill) Norris, & sisters, Margarite (Peg) Felty, Barbra (Bobbie) Wells, Frances (Francie) Kovach.

Jane graduated from Riley High School in 1943.

Jane & John were happily wed on Sept. 17, 1948. Jane worked at Gilbert's Men's Store for many years. After raising their children, in the mid-80s they retired to Brooksville, FL, where they savored the slow pace and the sun. John passed in July of 2003. Jane continued to live in Brooksville and began volunteer work. She liked playing cards, traveling and reading. Every morning she enjoyed tea and the sun with her Bible on her porch. Jane delighted in her family and came home to South Bend often.

She had six grandchildren, Benjamin (Ben) Smith, Jeremy (Jay) Smith, Jeanine (Jenny) Ouding, Jill Kovach, Melissa Strozewski & Kim Lipsky. She also had 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Jane's strong personality and spunk will be greatly missed.

She truly was one of a kind. A private memorial will be held later this year. May God bless Grandma Jane.
