EUGENE SLATER OBITUARY
Eugene William (Gene) Slater, born on November 25, 1925 in South Bend, Indiana, died in Austin, TX on August 13th at the age of 86. Gene joined the Navy during WWII, and under the Navy ROTC program, attended Rice University graduating with a degree in architecture. After 45 years he retired from Houston Endowment Inc. During his years at Houston Endowment, he left his mark on the historic Rice Hotel and the Houston Chronicle building. He was a 50 year member of the Texas Commerce Bank Choir and a member of First Presbyterian Church where he met and married Corrine Farrior who preceded him in death in 1988. Gene is survived by his son, Rick, daughter-in-law, Debbie, grandson, Brad, daughter, Debbie Wyant, son-in-law, Tim, grandson, William, brother, Tom, sister, Karen, and many nieces and nephews in Indiana. A private graveside ceremony will be held Sunday, August 19th at Forest Park Westheimer.
