Dr. Franklin D. Bressler
Dr. Franklin D. Bressler, age 88, of Columbus, died Monday, December 6, 2021. He was born June 9, 1933 in South Bend, Indiana, the son of the late Earl and Helen (Brown) Bressler. Dr. Bressler began his practice with Dr. Hallett in 1962.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Randy (Lisa) Bressler, Brett (Kay) Bressler and Amee (John) Foster and four beloved grandchildren, Jordan, Lauren, Luke and Noah. Also survived by brother and sisters-in-law, Charles (Marilyn) Bressler and Donna Bressler; other relatives and many friends and colleagues. Besides his parents,
Dr. Bressler was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Ann Bressler; sister, Imogene (Eddie) Kossakowski and brother Jimmy Bressler.
He attended Lincoln Elementary School and James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana. He received a Bachelor's degree from University of South Florida; graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine; served an internship at Springfield (OH) City Hospital and his residency at White Cross (Riverside Methodist) and St. Ann's Hospitals.
In 1972, Dr. Bressler founded the ob/gyn department at Mount Carmel East Hospital. He was Chair of the OB residency program at Riverside and St. Ann's Hospital; chairman of the OB/GYN Society; Chief of Staff at Mount Carmel East Hospital; Chairman of the OB/GYN Department at Grant Hospital. In 2019, Dr. Bressler received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Mount Carmel Health Systems. He also won the Compassionate Doctor Award, 2014-2017 and the Patient's Choice Award, 2014-2018.
Franklin was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Columbus Power Squadron. He loved snow skiing with his family as an accomplished Double Diamond Black skier and traveling the world with Carolyn. He was a gifted woodworker, loved gardening, played the trumpet and a great dancer. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 am Saturday, December 18, 2021 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1051 S. Waggoner Road, Reynoldsburg with Fr. David Young Celebrant. Family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 am Saturday at the church. Inurnment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Pataskala.
