Dr. Mark Eugene McCoy

Doctor Mark Eugene McCoy went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2015, surrounded by family and friends at his home in Monticello, Florida.

Doctor McCoy is survived by his two sons Charles D. McCoy, Thomas Eugene McCoy (Debbie), six grandchildren Lora Leigh Shepherd (Chris), Thomas Clark McCoy, Charles Dustin McCoy (Chelsey), Ashley Marie McCoy Strickland, Phillip Kyle McCoy, Kristin Paige McCoy and one Great granddaughter Peyton Leigh Shealey, his ex-wife and care taker for the last few months of his life Sarah Ann (McCoy) Purvis. He is preceded in death by his father Delbert Todd McCoy and mother Carrie Elma (Green) McCoy, Sisters Mary Lou Ward and Susan Darlene Hodgson. Doctor McCoy was born on July 4, 1931, in Kokomo, Indiana to Delbert Todd McCoy and mother Carrie Elma (Green) McCoy.

He graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana, where he held a track and field record until 2014. He graduated from Tulane University, New Orleans, in 1955 with a B. E. Degree in which he attended on a track and field scholarship.

After college he entered the U.S. Air Force on May 8, 1955 at Ellington AFB in Houston, Texas for Navigator training; then James Connally AFB for Observer training; Moody AFB for Jet training; then Hamilton AFB as a Radar Observer and Personal Services Officer .Retiring as a Major of the United States Air Force in 1975, he then received his Master's Degree in 1978 and his PH.D in 1979 from Luther Rice Seminary. He spent many years as a pastor of churches all over the United States, Panama Canal Panama, Thailand, and Germany. He spent his final years in Crawfordville in the community of Fox Run Circle surrounded by many friends that took him in as their own, known to them as Doc.

His family will have his viewing at Elizabeth Baptist on Tuesday July 28, 2015, from 10:00 to 11:00 am, with the funereal to follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery.
