In Memory
Alice Jacquelyn "Jackie" Johnson, passed away Nov. 3, 2021. Jackie was born December 6, 1933 to Alice and Lawrence McPharlin in South Bend, Indiana, where she grew up with her sister Margery and many cousins. In high school, she played French horn and then pursued a nursing career. She graduated from J.W. Riley High School in the class of 1951. She received a baccalaureate degree from Methodist Hospital of Indiana School of Nursing in 1954 and then worked at the Indianapolis hospital as an ER Nurse.
Luckily the love of her life, Richard H. Johnson from Mishawaka, met her New Year's Eve proposal deadline, and they were married on June 9, 1956. The couple moved to Muskegon in 1960, where Jackie worked at Hackley hospital and Knollview Nursing home until she retired. Jackie was a member of the First Congregational Church for over 50 years, helping with the church's Saturday Breakfast for the community.
She enjoyed travelling when she wasn't at the beach and travelled to several countries including China, Russia, Korea, Mexico and Canada. Jackie was also a member of several Bridge clubs and book clubs and she enjoyed having daily coffee with her friend Jeanne and other friends. While never terribly athletic (she generally spent family ski trips in the lodge or making fudge at home), Jackie enthusiastically cheered on children and grandchildren at football, baseball, basketball and soccer games, wrestling matches, swim meets, and the occasional racquetball tournament. Jackie was an avid fan of Jeopardy during the Alex Trebek years, enjoyed concerts, and also loved playing family card games which were taught to children, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jackie is survived by her sister, Margery Klarich; by her children Lisa Peratt, Michael (Denise) Johnson, and Brian (Susan) Johnson; grandchildren Ciara (William) Spencer, Alyssa (Brandon) Lechuga, Jaden Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Isaac Johnson, and Sofia Johnson; and great-grandchildren Eliana Spencer and Emma Spencer.
A celebration of life service will be determined for a future date that will be announced. Arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Home, Benzonia.
