SOUTH BEND - Alanna M. Chmiel, 82, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in her daughter's residence.
Alanna was born on March 31, 1933 in South Bend to Edward F. Wood, Sr. and Margarette (Kulchar) Wood Smith. She retired from Associates Insurance Company and Scottsdale Mall. Alanna was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church where she was a trustee and attended the original Sacred Heart Church, she graduated from Oliver School and Riley High School and was a Volunteer in Police Services, a blood donor, worked with REAL Services and the Rum Village Neighborhood Association. Alanna enjoyed playing euchre, Scrabble as well as playing catcher for the church's softball team.
Surviving are three daughters Denise M. (Steve) Domonkos of Mishawaka , Dana Spaid of South Bend and Stacey (Linden) Seitz of LaPorte, 6 grandchildren Sam (Abby Wiles) Domonkos, Ben (Sarah) Domonkos, Jacob (Lisa) Domonkos, Emilie Alanna Spaid, Cameron Seitz and Clayton Seitz, 2 great-grandchildren Mary Alanna and Gwyneth, a sister Dee Hay of South Bend and step-brother Richard Smith of South Bend. Alanna was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers Edward F. Wood, Jr. and Dennis B. Wood.
Funeral services will be celebrated at 11:00am Saturday, February 6, 2016 in Immanuel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4-8 Friday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Visitation will also take place 1 hour prior to services in the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church.
