SOUTH BEND - Anthony Marquis Deon "Tony" Echols Jr., 31, of South Bend, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010, in Memorial Hospital. Anthony was born on October 13, 1978, at Osteopathic Hospital in South Bend to the late Anthony Marquis Deon Echols Sr. and Leslie Ann Greer Jamerson (Tina).

Anthony attended Riley High School where he was known for his outstanding basketball skills, averaging 25 points per game, and still holds the highest record for most rebounds. Anthony was accepted to the A.B.A. Pennsylvania Valley Dogs semi-pro team. Anthony was also accepted to the Philadelphia Semi-Pro League in January 2001. He was also on the South Bend Tribune's All Metro Boys Team in 1997.

Anthony worked for Elixir Manufacturing and Bender Plastics.

Leaving behind to cherish his memory are his mother, Leslie Ann Greer Jamerson of South Bend; a daughter, Toniya Reannee Simone Echols; and a stepson, Kimyon Woods of South Bend; a grandmother, Mary Alice Depriest Echols; five brothers, Brannon Echols, Marquis Echols, Jonathan Jamerson, Christopher Townsend, Waylow Lovingood and Damion Wilkes; three sisters, Tiana Brown, Lajoura Greer and Briana Greer, all of South Bend; three nephews, Brayshawn, MarQuis and Brannon Echols Jr.; seven nieces, Anika, Breazia, Sydnee and Raven Echols, TaTiana and Destiny Jones, Jourdin Jamerson and Sanyaa Enjoli Townsend, all from South Bend; six aunts, Patricia A. Greer and Tonya Greer Matthews of South Bend, Celestine Tarvin of Chicago, IL, Della Martin of Memphis, TN, Debra Turner and Tina Gavin of Gary; seven uncles, Richard Echols of Gary, Raymond Chapman of Memphis, TN, John W. Greer, Harrison Greer III, Anthony H. Greer, Joseph R. Greer and Calvin B. Greer, all of South Bend; and a host of cousins, family and friends; and three very special friends, Toni Wood and Robert Washington.

Anthony was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Marquis Deon Echols Sr.; stepfather, John Jamerson; maternal grandparents, Harrison J. Greer Jr. and Mildred K. Greer; paternal grandfather, Richard Echols Sr.; an uncle, Henry Christopher Greer; and one cousin, Steven Gavin Jr.

Services will be held at Pentecostal Cathedral Church of Christ, 1025 Western Avenue, South Bend, IN 46601, Bishop Donald L. Alford Sr., pastor, on Saturday, June 26, 2010, with visitation at 10 a.m.; services starting at 11 a.m. John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you, I do not give to you as the world gives.
