Edna Mae (Holdeman) Huizinga
Edna Mae Huizinga, age 91, of South Bend, died at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2006, in Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 18, 1914, in South Bend, to Calvin S. and Anna Mabel (Hay) Holdeman. On June 17, 1939, in South Bend, she married Richard J. Huizinga, who preceded her in death on February 18, 1997. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Mae Ulmer of South Bend.
Among several nieces and nephews surviving are: Edna Mae Ulmer of Colorado Springs, Colo., niece, Joy Liljestam of Loveland, Colo., Linda Haan of Oswego, Ill., Grace Bode of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and a sister-in-law, Nellie Liljestam of Lombard, Ill.
Edna had taught piano to students over the year in her home. She was a member of the South Bend Piano Teachers Association, the Ladies Auxiliary of the South Bend Shrine Club, and the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #569. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of South Bend, where she had served as a deacon.
She was a member of the first graduation class of Riley High School in South Bend.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 333 West Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46601. Rev. David Morrow and Rev. Don Neely will officiate. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, next to her beloved, Richard. Following the service, friends will be received in the church parlor. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, to Shriner's Children's Hospital or to Hospice of St. Joseph County. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend, IN is in charge of arrangements.
