NEW CARLISLE - John Charles Connors, 71, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away peacefully and into the arms of Jesus on July 26, 2018, after a long battle with cancer.

John was born July 21, 1947 to the late Francis G. Connors and Virginia R. (Powers) Connors in South Bend, IN, and has been a lifelong area resident.

He graduated in 1966 from Riley High School in South Bend, IN. John retired from Northern Indiana Public Service Company in 2002, after 35 years of service.

John was a member of St. Joseph Lodge #45 in South Bend, IN, where he was a 32nd degree mason. He served on the LaPorte County 4-H Fair Pioneer Land Committee and was a Master Gardener. He took pride in the work he did with the Garden Shed and the beautiful garden in Pioneer Land at the Fair Grounds. In April 2018, John received his gold pin for more than 1,000 hours of volunteer work as a Master Gardener.

On November 13, 1966, John married the love of his life, Janice Wireman, who survives. They were blessed with three children, Robert (Trisha) Connors, Angela Fadke, and John (Bronnie) Connors. John loved his grandchildren, Matthew Connors, Jordan Fadke, Lauren Fadke, Ashleigh Fadke, Keegan Connors, Gage Harris, Joey Arnz, Juan Arnz, Hunter Arnz, Paige Cassel, and Joshua Cassel; and one granddaughter, Leighanna Harris, who preceded him in death. He is also survived by two brothers, Francis (Cheryl) Connors, Jr. and James (Marylynn) Connors. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2018 at Christ Chapel, 3402 South Locust Road, South Bend, IN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Center for Hospice Care, The Shriners Children Hospital, or the Purdue Master Gardener Program in LaPorte, IN.
