SOUTH BEND - Norma Jean Topping, 82, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012, in the comfort of her daughter's home. She was born November 19, 1930 in South Bend, IN, to Vernon and Helen (Draves) Hartman.
She graduated from Riley High School.
On July 23, 1949, in South Bend, IN, she married Gerald L. Topping, who preceded her in death on August 11, 1998.
Mrs. Topping is survived by her daughter, Penny (Rich) Joo of South Bend, IN; two sons, Bruce (Rosie) Topping of Plymouth, IN, and Gary (Linda) Topping of Waterloo, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jeffrey (Erika) Joo, Jeremy Joo, Judd (Denise) Topping, Tracee Topping, Michelle Vegso and Kristi Topping; eight great-grandchildren; and Mayme, her dog and companion.
She was preceded in death by her only brother, Richard Hartman.
Norma worked at Penney's, Sears Credit Department and Draperies Etc. before retiring to enjoy her flower and vegetable gardens. Her kitchen always smelled of cakes or cookies, to everyone's delight. We would like to thank Suzy Kyle, her close cousin, for all her help and companionship with Mom. We want to express our gratitude to Dave Behenke for all of his help and support. The family also wishes to thank the Center for Hospice for all their help to make Mom comfortable.
Memorial contributions in memory of Norma Jean Topping may be offered to The Center for Hospice Care, 4220 Edison Lakes Parkway, Suite 210, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Online condolences may be sent to www.palmerfuneralhomes.com. It was Norma's wish to be cremated and have no services. The family will have a memorial service for her at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend, and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family.
