Robert M. .Schulz, Sr., 86, of Farnsworth Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 7:50 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in his residence. Mr. Schulz was born on April 8, 1916, in South Bend, and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area.

On May 18, 1985, in South Bend, he married the former Constance "Connie" Kurtis, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Robert M. (Robin) Schulz Jr. of South Bend; a stepson, Douglas (Barbara) Bohs of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Mary (Kenneth) Staszewski of South Bend and Janet (Roger) Fites of Cary, N.C.; a sister, Lois Knipple of Madisonville, Ky.; and by five, step-granddaughters and two great-step-grandsons.

Bob retired in 1981 from Tucker Freight Lines, having worked as the supervisor in the accounting department. He was a member of the Southlawn United Methodist Church, F&AM Masonic Lodge 45, Avalon Grotto, and the retired Masons Investment Club.

He was a graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School, class of 1935, and the University of Notre Dame in 1941. Bob loved golf, and was an avid fan of Notre Dame football, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. He was a kind, warm person, and will not only be missed by his loving family, he will be missed by all who knew him, along with his church family. "A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best."

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9th, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/ Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10th, in Southlawn United Methodist Church, 60756 US #31 South, South Bend, with Pastor Don Carpenter officiating. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to Southlawn Methodist Chruch or to Hospice of St. Joseph County. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Schulz family.
