SOUTH BEND - Ruth Jayne Shelton, 90, passed away at 7:10 p.m. on Friday, February 13th, in Your Home Assisted Living, South Bend. She was born on November 3, 1918, in Cleveland, OH, to the late Anna R. (Kupke) and Henry F. Siekemeyer.

On June 29, 1938, in Brownsville, TX, as Ruth Siekemeyer, she married Walter C. Shelton Jr., who preceded her in death on April 1, 1998. In honor of her parents, Ruth and Walter shared the same wedding. Ruth was also preceded in death by a son, Henry P. Shelton, who died in 2006; a sister, Doris A. Rodibaugh, who passed in 1963; and two brothers, Edgar F. Siekemeyer, who died in 1930, and Leonard W. Siekemeyer, who died on February 14, 2009, the day after Ruth.

Surviving Ruth are a daughter, Nancy J. Licini of South Bend; four grandsons, Andrew P. Shelton and David A. Shelton of Indianapolis, Richard A. Licini Jr. of Mishawaka and David Licini, MD, of New Orleans, LA; nine great-grandchildren of Indianapolis; a daughter-in-law, Ellen Shelton of Indianapolis; three nephews, David L. Rodibaugh, MD, of Laguna Niguel, CA, Robert K. Rodibaugh Jr. of Farmington Hills, MI, and Jon P. Reyniers of Tallahassee, FL; and a niece, Roselyn A. Knowlden of Gig Harbor, WA.

Ruth was a graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend. She received her bachelor's in elementary education in 1938 from St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN.

As a first grade teacher she performed her remedial practice at Nuner School, South Bend. Ruth served as Worthy Advisor for the Masonic Rainbow Girls, South Bend. She served as the church secretary at Hilltop Lutheran Church of the Ascension of South Bend. She was an instrumental and a foundational member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, South Bend. Additionally, she was actively a member of the Dorcas Society of Our Redeemer. Ruth was a volunteer at the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, serving our community's healthcare and well-being needs. Most of all, Ruth may be remembered for her understanding and patient spirit. She was devoted to her family and friends of our community, and dedicated much of her life in the spirit of giving unconditionally. She shall greatly be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Joint services and visitation for Leonard and Ruth will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 20th, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, South Bend. Rev. Steven Latzke, pastor of the church, will conduct the services. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, and one hour prior to services Friday in the church. Burial will follow the services at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN.
