Theodore Richard Miller, 59 of Mishawaka, IN., passed away at 11:50 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.
Theodore (Ted) was born on July 1, 1964, in South Bend to Roy and Jan (Ball) Miller.
On July 22, 1989, in Elkhart, IN Ted married Dawn M. Weigel. Ted is survived by his loving wife Dawn, his mother Jan Jackman of Indianapolis, IN., his step mother Eileen Miller of Union, MI., two sisters; Pam Evans of Indianapolis and Penny Hall of Marengo, IN., two brothers; Tim Miller of South Bend, Tom (Denise) Miller of North Liberty, IN., a step sister Dodi (Rick) Watchorn of Elkhart, IN., and step brothers; Harold (Robin) Scott in Port Saint Lucie, FL., Steve (Kathy) Jackman in South Bend, IN., and Kevin (Ann) Jackman of Granger, IN and numerous extended family members. Ted was very close to and loved by his 11 nieces and nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by his father Roy Miller and stepfather Lowell Jackman.
In his early years Ted worked in the trades and became a journeyman carpenter. He later returned to college and received his teaching degree from Indiana University. Ted taught for 23 years for the South Bend Community School Corporation and Elkhart Community Schools from which he retired. Ted loved his career and felt that it was his calling to work with children. Ted was a gentle soul who was especially loved by his students. He had a passion for helping youth and took a genuine interest in every person he met.
During summers he and his wife Dawn did much traveling to visit family and historic sites around the country. The bond Ted shared with his wife was a testimony for others. They were truly best friends. Ted enjoyed watching classic movies and westerns. He also enjoyed magic and loved to do tricks for his family and students.
Ted was always willing to help and provided much love and support to his friends and family members in times of need. His family is deeply saddened by his passing, but forever thankful for their shared faith and love during their time of grief.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday October 21, 1:00-5:00pm at Resurrection Lutheran Academy gymnasium located at 6840 Nimtz Pkwy, South Bend, IN 46628. Please join the family in celebrating the “Life of Ted”. Bring a memory, funny story, picture, or word of encouragement to share. Drop in or stay a while, all are welcome!
