In Memory
Bennie Ruth (Foster) Stewart
August 30, 1961 ~ March 25, 2022 (age 60)
Bennie Ruth (Foster) Stewart, born on August 30, 1961, entered heaven’s gates on Friday, March 25, 2022 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN. She was born to the union of the late Reverend Jesse D. Foster and Odell Davis Thompson. Bennie was taught about life, family values and her upbringing by Juanita Jennings.
Bennie was a 1979 Riley Wildcat graduate and a dedicated employee that took pride in her work as a former CNA at Holy Cross and St. Paul’s Senior Communities, as well as a paraprofessional at John Adams and Riley High Schools in South Bend, IN.
Bennie loved to cook for family and friends. She would send you home with enough food for days. She was a seamstress and loved to dress. Her makeup was on point, and when she walked into the room, her smile and genuine spirit drew you like a magnet. After the greeting, you became family. She never complained when she didn’t feel well, and if you were not at your best, Bennie was quick to remind you that “you can pray through the storm.”
Bennie was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Anthony Stewart, who preceded her in death on November 14, 2021. Bennie loved her children and had bragging rights when they excelled in school, and she was always a cheerleader on the sideline at their sporting events.
Bennie leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy of love, three children: daughter, LaToya Stewart; sons, Benjamin Foster, Sr., and Tony Stewart; and special son, Lamount Williams (Tenisha Chamber). Bennie also leaves 16 siblings: Reginald Hendrick, Alvin Campbell, Derrie Johnson, Betty (Meshuilam) Williams, Melanie Thompson, Angela Thompson, Rochelle Thompson, JoAnne Thompson, Greg Thompson, Kenny Thompson, Cedric Jennings, Clyde Jennings, Lois Swedarsky, Jacqueline Thompson, Jennifer Thompson and Bliley Shelly. Bennie also leaves twelve grandchildren: Elijah Stewart, LeSeandre Stewart, Chariauna Foster, Benjamin Foster, Jr., Brendon Foster, Chase Williams, Tanyah Taylor, Trevonne Taylor, Taryn Taylor, Tyrein Taylor, Tamarion Williams, Lovelady Williams, and Lemon Williams; two great-grandchildren, Tristen and Zaire (to be born soon); three special cousins, Ray Davis, Rochelle Terry and Lawanda Carver-Smith; special nieces/nephews, Marie Davis, Lisa (Matt) Wills, Adanakai Wheeler; special sisters, Marcia Brown-Humphrey and Marjorie Williams; and a host of other family members and others too numerous to name.
In addition to her parents, Bennie was preceded in death by her step-father, Benjamin Thompson; Chester Jennings; and special sister, Diana Park.
Bennie will be remembered as a woman who loved God, lived her life to the fullest, and loved her family unconditionally.
TO OUR MOTHER WITH LOVE
If roses grow in Heaven, Lord,
Please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my mother’s arms
And tell her they’re from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
And when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
And hold for a while
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day
But there is an ache within my heart
That will never go away.
