DeShawn Derrille Selmon

DeShawn Derrille Selmon

November 24, 1976 ~ April 21, 2022 (age 45)

DeShawn Derrille Selmon (affectionately known as “Tweezzle”) passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.

The life of DeShawn Selmon began on November 24, 1976, in South Bend, IN, when he was born to Deborah (Herron) Barr and the late Michael (Bonita) Selmon. DeShawn was a lifetime resident of South Bend, IN. He resided in his grandparents’ home with his siblings and extended family members. He attended Revelation Church of God in Christ where his grandfather, Robert E. Herron, Sr., is the founder and pastor.

DeShawn was educated at Cathedral School of Saint Matthew and then James Whitcomb Riley High School, both in South Bend. He was employed at the Woodford Homes as a coach counselor.

Tweezzle was Kobe Bryant’s number-one fan. He also loved the Green Bay Packers. If you knew him, you’d know he did not want to be disturbed while he was watching the games. When you asked him a question while he was watching sports, he would look you right in the eyes, with a firm look and would say, “I’m watching the game!” He may have been small in stature, but he had a gigantic heart. If you met him, you had no choice but to love him.

While working at the Woodford Homes, he was able to touch the hearts of many South Bend youths in a positive way. He loved his job; he never wanted to miss a day. He cherished the youths at his job, and they genuinely loved him back. Tweezzle loved his grandparents; he loved laughing and kidding around with his mother, his daughters and other family members and friends. He had a big smile that would touch your heart.

Loving family members who survive are his mother, Deborah (Herron) Barr; four daughters, TyShawna Herron of Fort Wayne, IN; Aniyah Selmon, and twins, Simone Selmon and Samiyah Selmon, all of Louisville, KY; three sisters; Shanica (Mose) Rayford of Atlanta, GA; Sarena Gates and Mallory Parker, both of South Bend; two brothers; Chris Selmon and Geremy Barr, both of South Bend; cousin-brother, Dion Herron of South Bend; special aunt, Betty Herron of South Bend; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Deshawn was preceded in death by his father, Michael Selmon, and his grandmother, Mrs. Tennie L. Herron.

Funeral services for DeShawn will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Palmer Funeral Home—West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, IN. Elder Steve L. Herron, Sr., from Revelation Church of God in Christ, will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:00am on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
