SOUTH BEND - Evan M. Graveel, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away peacefully at 7:49 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born December 17, 1992, in South Bend, the first son of Michael R. & Jennifer Smock (Milligan) Graveel.

He graduated in June 2011 from James Whitcomb Riley High School, and was attending TriBeca Flashpoint Academy in Chicago.

Evan aspired to be a film writer and screen director. He loved movies, bowling, baseball and the Phillies. He also enjoyed umpiring at his little brother's baseball games.

Evan is survived by his parents, Mike & Jennifer Graveel of South Bend; his brother, Nicholas of South Bend; maternal grandparents, Dana & Marlin Milligan of South Bend, and Catherine Smock of New Palestine, IN; and maternal great-grandmother, Virginia Mc Roy of South Bend. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Victoria Gruber of South Bend; 12 aunts & uncles, and 32 cousins; along with many, many friends.

Evan was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Kenneth "Gene" Smock; and paternal grandparents, Katherine A. Graveel Berger, Richard C. Graveel and Wilfred A. Berger.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Memorial Children's Hospital, 6th floor Pediatrics, for all they have done in caring for Evan and his family.

Services celebrating the life of Evan Graveel will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 61770 Miami Road, South Bend, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Rev. Jim Fair & Rev. Edgar Cabello will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Evan may be offered to Memorial Children's Hospital Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Unit, 615 North Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
