Jeffrey W. Payne, lovingly known as “Freight Train” by his friends, 63, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters, on Sunday, May 29, 2022. Jeff was born on September 18, 1958, in South Bend, Indiana, to William (Bill) and Delores Payne. Jeff attended Riley High School with the class of 1976. On March 7, 2004, Jeff was joined together in marriage with Lisa May in Zephyrhills, Florida. They enjoyed 18 wonderful, loving years together.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father and a niece, Carly. Left to cherish the memory of Jeff are his wife, Lisa; his mother, Delores; a son, Jason (Debbie) Ballard of Lakeville, Indiana; and daughters, Amanda (Matthew) Kurzhal of South Bend, Indiana, and Jessica (Jordan) Gee of Elkhart, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Megan, Nathan and Owen Kurzhal, Koulsen, Addelyn and Brynlyn Gee, and Matthias Ballard; brothers Steve (Shari) Payne, Dean (Dianna) Payne and Greg (Melody) Payne.

Jeff shared a great affinity and love for Harley Davidson motorcycles with his friends and enjoyed the annual Bike Week in Daytona. "Ride to Live, Live to Ride."
