William L. French

William L. French, 92, of Marcellus, MI, a former longtime South Bend resident, passed away at 710 a.m. Sunday, July 1, 2007 in Lakeview Hospital, Paw Paw, MI. He was born September 27, 1914 in South Bend, IN as the son of Henry L. & Margaret (Lamere) French, and lived here his lifetime until moving to Marcellus a few years ago to be near his daughter.

In November 1933 in South Bend he married Marcella Bryant. Together, they had two daughters who survive, Amber Lee (Fredric) Hensel of Marcellus, and Sherril L. Gerard of Santa Ana, CA. Then on July 5, 1964 at Garver Lake, Michigan, he married Ruth E. Sprinkle. She passed away on November 17, 1990. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances V. Dworecki, and a brother, Melvin H. French.

Mr. French is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, along with his former wife, Marcella Bryant Ely of Marcellus.

He retired in 1981 as a machine operator with the Bendix Corp. following 41 years of faithful service. He was also a member of U.A.W. Local #9, St. Joseph Lodge #45, F. & AM., and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. He attended Calvary Temple in South Bend as well.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2007 in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev Paul Murray will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until time of services Friday at the funeral home.
