Services for James II. Heintzelman, 72, of 1206 Blaine Ave., who died about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in his home after an illness, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., where a parish rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul or [hospice of St. Joseph County Inc. Mr. Heintzelman was a former teacher and principal for the South Bend Community School Corp. for 32 years. He retired in 1977.

He was born May 16, 1915, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. On June 10, 1946, in Billings, Mo., he married Helen M. Giebler, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Myra Heintzelman of Indianapolis; three sons, Joseph H. and Philip C., both of South Bend and Matthew D. of Chicago; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Heintzelman was a teacher or principal at the former Woodrow Wilson High School, Kline and Franklin Schools and the present Lincoln, Harrison and Clay Middle Schools. He was a graduate of Riley High School, the University of Notre Dame and received his master's degree from Miami of Ohio University. He was a member of the church, St. Vincent DePaul Society and Forever Learning Institute.
