Violet Eva “Vi” (Klingerman) Chapman

Oct. 23, 1913-June 28, 1996

Violet E. "Vi" Chapman of York Road, South Bend, passed away Friday morning peacefully in her sleep in her home. Vi was born Oct. 23, 1913, in Tyner, Ind., and moved to South Bend in 1931, graduating from Riley High School in 1932. On Sept. 1, 1934, in South Bend as Violet E. Klingerman she married Carroll W. "Dub" Chapman . He preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1969.

She is survived by three daughters: Donna (Bud) Ernsberger, Carol (Rick) Kilgore and Linda McKee all of South Bend. Two sons: Jerry W. (Jamie) Chapman of Plano, Texas, and Dick A. (Ruth) Chapman of South Bend. A sister Miriam Ullery of South Bend and three brothers, Arthur Klingerman of Lakeville, Marvin Klingerman of Plymouth and Ralph Klingerman of Warrenton, Ore.

Mrs. Chapman was a member of the Riley Lunch Bunch, Elks Lodge 235, the golf leagues of St. Judes and St. Matthew parish. She had also attended Ridgedale Presbyterian Church in South Bend for nearly 50 years. In December 1981, she sold Chapman 's Super Market which she had owned for 37 years.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 1, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home located at 1201 S. Michigan Street in South Bend. Visitation will also be on Tuesday morning in the church from 10 a.m. until the services. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, in the Ridgedale Presbyterian Church where Pastor Donald Neely will officiate. Burial will be in the Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, 1406 E. Ewing Ave., South Bend, Ind. 46613, or to the American Heart Association.
