Florance F. (Mortimore) Downs

SOUTH BEND - Florance F. Downs, 96, of South Bend, passed away in the early morning hours of December 7th in the Southfield Village of South Bend. Florance was born on January 31, 1915, in Attica, Indiana, to the late James H. and Dessie May (Fewry) Mortimore. On December 22, 1934, in South Bend, Florance married Peter R. Downs, who preceded her in death on August 4, 1992.

She was a fifty-year member of the River Park United Methodist Church, and also belonged to the Riley Lunch Bunch.

Florance is survived by her two sons, Michael P. (Carol) Downs of South Bend and James L. (Diann) Downs of Charlotte, North Carolina. She was a grandmother of four and a great-grandmother of four. Florance was preceded in death by a foster sister, Ethel A. Heierman, in 1982.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, December 13th, from 10 until service time in the second floor chapel at Southfield Village, 6450 Miami Circle. A service celebrating Florance's life will be held 11:00 am, in the chapel, with Chaplain Deb Hewitt officiating. Entombment will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Memorial contributions may be made to either the River Park United Methodist Church, 920 S. 23rd Street, South Bend, IN 46615; or to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 4220 Edison Lakes Pkwy., Suite 210, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Bubb Funeral Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
