Merna K (Newman) Ulbricht

May 31, 1914 - April 23, 2000

Merna K. Ulbricht, 85, of Mayflower Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away after extended illness at 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 23, in the St. Joseph Care Center-West. Mrs. Ulbricht was born on May 31, 1914, in South Bend and was a life-time resident of the Michiana area.

On June 30, 1938, as Merna K. Newman, she married August H. Ulbricht in South Bend. Mr. Ulbricht preceded his wife in death on Oct. 25, 1986. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene Kay Ulbricht on June 28, 1970.

Merna is survived by two sons, Fred A. (Dianne) Ulbricht and Earl L. (Tammy) Ulbricht, both of South Bend. Also surviving are six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Visitation hours for Mrs Ulbricht will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, at The Hanley & Sons 'Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home located at West Pretend Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, in Gumption Prairie United Methodist Church, with Pastor Charles Ternet officiating. Burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery Friends will also be received one hour prior to the services in the church.

Mrs. Ulbricht was a member of the church, charter member of Greene Township Extension Homemakers Club. She was also a graduate of Riley High School in the class of 1932. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to the Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice. The HANLEY 8 SONS 'Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend heartfelt sympathy to the Ulbricht family.
