SMITH, Cloyd Daniel beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and treasured friend, passed away at home on April 16, 1994. Mr. Smith was born in South Bend, Indiana, July 3, 1914, to Guy and Ethel Smith. His keen interest in aerospace began in High School when he taught model building at his local YMCA, and at the YMCA Camp Eberhart in Michiana, Indiana. He graduated from Purdue University where he met such notables as Amelia Earhart, and famous aviator, Wilie Post. After graduation, he joined a select staff at Douglas Aircraft Company after having traveled to the west coast by train. His distinguished career as an Aeronautical Engineer included such highlights as working on the preliminary design, with Howard Hughes, for the Flying boat, UKI, and on various aircraft projects in several states, Great Britain, and Holland. 

In the early sixties, Mr. Smith formed an acoustical engineering firm, General Acoustics Corporation, of which he served as President until his death. Mr. Smith, who is survived by his wife, Dorothy Covert Smith, was a devoted family man who derived great pleasure from his home, his garden and his many friends. Cloyd and his two brothers, Don and Richard, were campers at Camp Eberhart, as were their sons, Craig, David and Bruce. Don and Richard Smith were counselors as well.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Angels For Autistic Children, 16 Colorado Avenue, Santa Monica CA 90401, or to YMCA Camp Eberhart, 1201 Northside Blvd., South Bend, Indiana 46615, Attention: Mr. Kirby Faulkenberg.
