SOUTH BEND — Louise T. "Wheezy" Strychalski, 93, formerly of St. Paul's Retirement Community and Scott Street in South Bend, passed away at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2007, in Countryside Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mishawaka, IN. She was born on April 27, 1913, to the late Frank and Rose Turza in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with her parents one brother, William J. Sitarz, also preceded her in death.

Louise was a graduate from Riley High School and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated as the valedictorian of her class.

Mrs. Strychalski was a retired registered nurse, and had worked at both Studebaker's and the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. She was also enrolled in the Red Cross Unit sent for emergency flood duty in southern Indiana at the close of World War II.

On April 25, 1942, as Louise T. Turza, she married Bernard V. Strychalski in Chicago, IL. He survives. Along with her husband, she is survived by three brothers-in-law, Harry Miller of Mishawaka, IN; Raymond (Mary) Strychalski of Atlanta, GA, and Ted (Pat) Strychalski of South Bend, IN; one sister-in-law, Hilde Turner of Mishawaka, IN; and 26 nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Strychalski was a member of Christ the King Parish. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to Las Vegas and Florida. Louise was well-known for her fabulous cooking, conversation and manners. She was thoughtful and caring, and her beautiful smile and twinkling eyes will be remembered fondly.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 am. Friday, January 5, 2007, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2007, in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.

She will be loved and missed by many friends of Countryside Place and St. Paul's Retirement Community, as well as neighbors on Scott Street and by all of her family.
