Earl James Baumbach
Earl James Baumbach, 43, of 1013 East Fox St., died of a heart attack at 12:10 p.m. Sunday at Wood Lake Scout Reservation, Jones, Mich., where he had gone to pick up his son, Allan Hunter.
He was born in Auburn, Ind., March 15, 1913, and had lived in South Bend most of his life. On Oct. 6, 1940, in Springfield, Ill., he married Ruth Hunter, who survives. Mr. Baumbach had been an electrical engineer for the Bendix Missile Plant, Mishawaka, for seven years.
Other survivors are his mother, Mrs. Ellis J. Baumbach of Fort Worth, Tex.; another son, Frederick James, and two daughters, Sally Anne and Sue Ellen, all at home; three sisters, Mrs. Jack Stockman of South Bend, Mrs. R.C. Cornwell of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Mrs. Charles Samson Jr. of Fort Worth, and a brother, Lt. R.L. Baumbach, of the U.S. Navy.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home where services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Theodore Kleinhans, pastor of Emmaus Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Mr. Baumbach was a member of the Bendix Management Club, a Cub Scout committee member, a graduate of Riley High School and Purdue University, West Lafayette, and a veteran of World War II, serving as a major in the U.S. Army.
